Agroforestry

Agroforestry (Silvopasture) is a management system that combines agriculture and trees to address conservation needs and build more profitable and weather-resilient farms, ranches, and communities. Agroforestry systems integrate trees, crops, and livestock that foster ecological resilience, climate stability, economic prosperity, and vibrant communities.

Michele Manske is the on-farm engagement manager for the Savanna Institute. Michele has worked on herb farms, non-profit urban farms, hydroponic farms, landscaping and now agroforestry farms with over 10 years in the field. She received her master’s degree in Horticultural science at the University of MN and has a background in fine arts. Michele, her husband and their 19-month-old son just moved to Oregon and are loving it!

The Savanna Institute is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that works with farmers and scientists to lay the groundwork for widespread agroforestry (Silvopasture System) adoption in the Midwest US.

Inspired by the native savanna ecosystems that once covered much Wisconsin and the Midwest, the Savanna Institute conducts research, education, and outreach to support the growth of diverse, perennial agroecosystems.
